October 17, 2004 Dear Weekend Edition: I was very disappointed in your choices for "Voices in the News This Past Week" on your program 10/17/04. Instead of replaying Bush's flagrant lie in the third debate you chose to repeat Kerry's reference to the Cheney's gay daughter in answer to a question in the debate is homosexuality a choice. I strongly believe Bush's flagrant lie that Kerry was exaggerating when he accused Bush of saying he didn't care about Osama Bin Laden was much more telling about the character of Bush and much more newsworthy than Kerry's reference to Mary Cheney. Then you made it worse by repeating the comments of Lynne Cheney who concluded that Kerry "is not a good man" because he mentioned her gay daughter in the debate. I'll tell you who is not a good man and that is Lynne and Dick Cheney who are clearly ashamed of her their gay daughther. Do they even love her? Shame on Lynne Cheney and shame on NPR for repeating the words of that homophobic uncaring mother. I expect better of NPR in the future. Sincerely, |
