March 26, 2006 Mr. Jack O'Connell Dear Mr. O'Connell: Thank you for your letter of March 17, 2006. Your letter had a grammatical error in it in the second sentence. The sentence reads "I appreciate you taking the time to write" but should read, "I appreciate your taking the time to write." I think that is a very sad commentary on the state of public instruction in California. However, I am glad to hear that California will continue to teach evolution in science class. I wouldn't have expected anything less since evolution is a fact of life. The real issue is that intelligent design should not be taught at any institution of public instruction since it is nothing but a fancy word for creationism. That has no place in public schools and should be left to the church pulpit where it belongs with the rest of their fairy tales. Sincerely, |
