Mr. Jack O'Connell
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
1430 N Street
Sacramento, CA 95814-5901

Dear Mr. O'Connell:

Thank you for your letter of March 17, 2006. Your letter had a grammatical error in it in the second sentence. The sentence reads "I appreciate you taking the time to write" but should read, "I appreciate your taking the time to write." I think that is a very sad commentary on the state of public instruction in California. However, I am glad to hear that California will continue to teach evolution in science class. I wouldn't have expected anything less since evolution is a fact of life. The real issue is that intelligent design should not be taught at any institution of public instruction since it is nothing but a fancy word for creationism. That has no place in public schools and should be left to the church pulpit where it belongs with the rest of their fairy tales.

Sincerely,

Michelle D. Brodie
