KQED Inc December 12, 2002 Dear KQED: I have been a loyal supporter of KQED for many years but I have decided to no longer support your station. I can't take it any more. I know you need money but the way you are prostrating yourself to corporate sponsors and pandering to greedy right wing poachers that run them is sickening me. I used to think that KQED was the last bastion of liberalism in journalism. But that is no longer the case. I am repeatedly sickened by your biased reporting. Don Ganier literally drools over the airwaves while giving his glowing reports of President Bush. President Bush is an idiot. Anybody with a wisp of intelligence knows that he is a moron and no reporter should report anything positive about that man ever. He has done nothing good since he was appointed by the Supreme Court in 2000. We already have radio stations on the right that can shove positive fodder down the throats of a cowering American public but the educated and informed listeners of public radio deserve better. Why are you trying to give equal time to the right when they are so powerful already and have so much air time and TV time already? I was shocked to hear Lisa Mullens of the World say the other day that everyone accepts that nuclear build up by the U.S. in the 1950s through 1980s was necessary to stop Communism. No everyone does not swallow that American propaganda lie. I for one, do not believe that the billions spent by Reagan in the 1980s accomplished anything but to put more money in the pockets of his cronies in huge corporate welfare programs. Do you really believe that Reagan's phony star wars program had any impact whatsoever on the actions of other countries? It sure as hell didn't stop September 11. Communism went down the tubes because the Russians, as the Koreans today, were literally starving to death. Wasn't it obvious to everyone in the 1970s when Carter had to give free rice to Russia to keep them from starving to death that there was no way in hell they were going to attack us with nuclear weapons and that communism was dead? It had nothing to do with Reagan's policies. Then just this week I heard some reporter excoriate Michael Moore's new movie, "Bowling for Columbine." Why would any reporter waste his or her time punishing that movie in the press? The movie made some real and poignant points about gun violence in this country. That's all Michael Moore set out to do in the first place. Who cares if the mother of the little six year old who killed another six year old smoked crack? Didn't her boss say she showed up at work every day and worked hard? Isn't that what this country is all about-working hard and making money? Why didn't you have some reporter blasting some of those ridiculous Tom Clancy movies that give Al Quaeda terrorists new ideas about how to attack the U.S.? Or why don't you have a reporter lambasting the idiot who wrote that new book out actually claiming that Reagan, that moron who had Alzheimer's while president, stopped communism! My God, what has this country come to? Then the crowning blow came today when I was listening to that inane nonsense program, "Talk of the Nation." Instead of having the usual opposing sides of the issue, the host had not one but two right leaning commentators to convince us that tax cuts for the rich and deficit spending are an excellent idea. Did Bush send you some money to run that show? It was practically a Bush campaign ad it was so bad. Like one caller said, please show me just one time in history that a tax cut for the rich helped the middle class? It has never happened. Wake up KQED! There is no trickle down economics. Reagan ran this country into the toilet with his tax cuts for the rich and deficit spending on the rich war toys created by rich corporations. Were you sleeping in the 80s? Bush is Reagan redux. The American public may be sleeping through this nightmare but I am not. I refuse to give your station any more of my money until it gets rid of all right wing commentators. There is no need to give them a voice on your station. They already have their stations. We need ours. I am switching to the BBC where they give real news. Please for God's sake have some self respect and stop pandering to the right. Sincerely, |
