Yosemite, July 3 - 6, 2003
July 3 - Cloud's Rest
After a late start and getting our feet wet due to misjudging crossing of a stream at the entrance of the trail, the hike to Cloud's was wonderful. A steep climb at the beginning was interspersed with patches of snow, shade and rocks to sit on for a short respite.
On the flat we saw many birds and it was pleasantly sunny and warm. We were treated to rare privacy on the summit where we rested for about half an hour before descending.
It felt like a short hike, depite the fact that it was 14 miles round trip, and our boots were dry enough by the end that we learned our lessons, and took them off to cross the stream to get back to the car. |

July 4 - The Famous Waterwheel Falls
What a spectacular hike! It was one waterfall after another, with each more furious than the one before it. The hike was relatively flat, but quite long on the return after 16 miles. We took just enough water that we didn't have to drink any at Soda Springs.

July 5 - Rush Creek Trail from the Eastern Sierra
Dam after dam after damn dam! This hike started with about 2 hours of vertical switch-backs over a man-made funitel. There were horse droppings to dodge and plenty of people. There was some stunning scenery if you could forget about all the dam walls, pipe and railway tracks.

July 6 - Parker Lake, Tenaya Lake and Hardin Lake
Parker Lake is a small, but stunning Lake near June Lake. The trail is about 3 miles round trip, but well worth the steep climb at the beginning for the views of Mono Lake.
On the way back to San Francisco, we stopped at Tenaya Lake for lunch, and then did a quick 3 miles hike to Hardin Lake and back.
